Bachaana - A Bite of Comedy & Thrill

Finally! Lollywood is back in action. After a long depression, year 2015 has been proved the time of revival of Pakistani film Industry. Lollywood has been blessed with many incredible projects in 2015, such as Bin Roye, Moor, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Manto, Wrong No. and many more. In like manner, 2016 has entertained us with Ho Mun Jahan and now Bachaana, an incredible movie by Nasir Khan.

Bachaana is a romantic comedy directed by Nasir Khan and produced by Rizwan Saeed, is released across Pakistan on 26 February 2016. Staring Muhib Mirza, Sanam Saeed and Adeel Hashmi, Bachaana is directorial debut of Nasir Khan.

Team Bachaana created an adequate hype before the release of movie by using digital and social media. The promotional activities and visits of star cast boosted the movie enough. So, like every one, I was also looking forward for it. Now, after attending the premiere I can surely say, yes ! it is a movie.

Bachaana is a romantic comedy, simple, quite predictable hence catchy. Aalia (Sanam Saeed) is a simple Indian girl, who comes to Mauritius right after getting married with Jahangir (Adeel Hashmi). Vicki (Muhib Mirza) is a Pakistani taxi driver, who is trying his best to settle down in Mauritius.

Aalia accidentally involves in horrendous situation and finds her husband as her enemy. She takes Vicki's help to escape from the bad guys. In short, the story revolves around an adventurous journey, in which the accidental association between Aalia and Vicki turns into a relationship.

As far as story concerns, it is not so powerful. Yes! The movie is based on a weak plot. Hence, it has potential to hold the audience. The real strength of the movie is its script, chucklesome and sprinkled with powerful punch lines. Both Muhib and Sanam have excellent comic timing and incredible chemistry. The point which impressed me the most is that the movie is full of quality humor, free from unrefined or uncultured material, which makes it perfect for family audience.

If we talk about direction, undoubtedly Nasir Khan did a great job. Even though there is room for improvement but still as a very first attempt, his part is impressive. Usually, most of Pakistani movies look like an extended TV Drama but thankfully, this time Nasir Khan saved the audience from such disruption. Yes! Bachaana is a movie.

The film is bit fast paced but for me it’s not a glitch as with a proper direction it helps to retain the attention of the audience. Total duration of the movie is 100 minutes and it is packed in 35 days. Moreover, the heavenly sites of Mauritius are definitely going to inspire the audience.

The movie totally depends on Sanam and Muhib in terms of acting; I must say they were stupendous. The spontaneous and effortless dialogues delivery along with precise facial expressions would be woo the audience to laugh. Muhib is a perfect movie material. He has done some comic roles on television before (Zoja Akber a play by Geo) but it is the first time we are watching Sanam in a comic role. I love the way Sanam puts her demands regarding a washroom in such crucial situations. Believe me you won't stop laughing.

Another surprising factor in Bachaana is Adeel Hashmi as a creepy villain. Who can expect "Lucy" to be creepy? But yes he did it and did it meticulously.

Bachaana has three melodious songs, Bachaana, Koi Labda and Yaari. All three songs are beautifully composed and are proficiently sung. The point which I don't feel cool is that all three songs are played in background and not even a single one is picturized on Sanam and Muhib in the way it is supposed to be. A song with proper lip synced by Sanam and Muhib, with some “Dance ka Tharka" would be icing on cake. Other than this dearth, all three are euphonious and well suited to the situations.

The thing which could be monotonous for the audience is the number of sprint sequences in the movie. You may feel that Sanam and Muhib might have been the athletes during their student life. Whenever, they sensed Adeel, they just started running. The repetition of these chase sequences could be bothersome but again hats off to director, who tried his best to retain the attention of audiences, by adding well written quips.

Overall, quality humour, shrewdly written script, unforced acting, spot on shots all together made Bachaana a worth watch. It would definitely justify the price you have been paid for the tickets. In short, a quality entertaining movie can be produce without "heavy duty" extensive cast, flashy item number, obnoxious comedy and glamorous wardrobe.
